Conservation and Research

Founded and run by the community, Mitsinjo operates on an eminently local level. This provides strength to our organization’s conservation and development projects, allowing us to focus intensely on the unique biodiversity of Andasibe.

As a locally-run organization, we understand better than most how integral environmental issues are tied to community health and sustainable development initiatives. Taking this into consideration, Mitsinjo not only focuses on managing our protected natural areas and conserving biodiversity, but also on improving the livelihoods of our members and the people within our community.

All of our projects are community-based and entirely implemented by our members and other residents in the area.

Our areas of interest include:

Reforestation and Rainforest Restoration

Environmental Education

Community-based Protection and Sustainable Agriculture

Human Health and Family Planning

Amphibian Conservation

Lemur Monitoring

The Greater Bamboo Lemur (Prolemur simus), one of the most endangered primates in the world, is one of our target species that we have monitored at Torotorofotsy

The Greater Bamboo Lemur (Prolemur simus) was rediscovered at Torotorofotsy in 2007 thanks to Mitsinjo’s monitoring efforts.
