Founded and run by the community, Mitsinjo operates on an eminently local level. This provides strength to our organization’s conservation and development projects, allowing us to focus intensely on the unique biodiversity of Andasibe. Our main areas of interest include:

Reforestation and Rainforest Restoration

Environmental Education

Amphibian Conservation

Lemur Monitoring

From time to time (as funding has allowed) we also work to promote and train people in sustainable agricultural methods as well as human health and family planning initiatives.

All of our projects are community-based and entirely implemented by our members and other residents in the area.

The Greater Bamboo Lemur (Prolemur simus), one of the most endangered primates in the world, is one of our target species that we have monitored at Torotorofotsy

The Greater Bamboo Lemur (Prolemur simus) was rediscovered at Torotorofotsy in 2007 thanks to Mitsinjo’s monitoring efforts.
